Developing Practicum Programs for Pre-Service Teachers: A Narrative Reflective Approach (Arabic Book)

Authors

Tarsheed Educational Publications has released the guide Developing Practicum Programs for Pre-Service Teachers in Light of the Narrative Reflective Approach, authored by Dr. Wael Mousa Keshk.

This guide, the seventh title in Tarsheed’s publication series, seeks to place greater focus on pre-service teachers by offering a practical framework for developing practicum programs. The framework is designed to be both flexible and adaptable, allowing for use across a variety of contexts and conditions. It also presents an alternative approach to pre-service teacher preparation, grounded in contemporary educational, philosophical, and epistemological foundations.

The guide engages pre-service teachers in a process of critical reflection on their practices, shaped by their prior ideas, beliefs, and experiences. It encourages them to share and discuss their reflections with others, based on the premise that reflecting on ideas - and exchanging them - can generate productive cognitive tension. This process stimulates the development of new mental frameworks to resolve that tension, leading to the integration of new knowledge with prior understanding, conceptual change, and, ultimately, shifts in practice or the creation of new knowledge.

The book spans 208 medium-format pages and is organized into five chapters: The Conceptual Framework of Practicum Education Based on the Narrative Reflective Approach; The Practical Framework for Applying the Narrative Reflective Approach in Pre-Service Teacher Education; Practical Applications of the Narrative Reflective Approach in Pre-Service Teacher Programs; Technology for Enhancing Reflective Practice; and Insights from Practical Experience.

The guide also includes an appendix with suggested activities and exercises designed to activate memory, develop critical thinking, and strengthen reflective writing among pre-service teachers.

This publication is expected to benefit pre-service teachers, cooperating school teachers, academic supervisors in faculties of education, program designers for practicum education, and researchers in the field.
